Outreach Team Chairperson
I believe I
would probably bring a fairly varied background to the AWAB Council. I
have an Associate of Science in Radio/Television Production, Bachelor of
Science in Secondary Education, and Master of Education in Counselor
Education and am working on a second Masters degree, this time in
Educational Administration. I have worked as a Volunteer Coordinator for
a hospice and have worked for 18 years in education as a teacher,
counselor, and program coordinator. I am currently Coordinator or
College/Career & Guidance Services for a small school district just
outside Austin Texas.
Associated with my job, I am Chair of the College
Enrollment Managers Work Group of the Greater Austin Chamber of
Commerce. We are a group of leaders from each of 11 area school
districts who gather to coordinate our strategy to get more students
directly to college. In that role I am often working with community
leaders in business and politics. When the legislature is in session, I
will give feedback and an “in the field” take on proposed legislation as
well as directly testifying before the appropriate committee.
In the community I have volunteered with AIDS Services of
Austin and Project Transitions (an AIDS Hospice) with some of their
major fundraisers. I’ve also just done spot volunteering on the day of
events for other local charities usually helping with set up or take
down as needed.
As a church leader in the church where I was raised, I
taught adult, young adult, and youth Sunday school, adult and youth
Discipleship Training, was a youth leader. I also ran the soundboard
most Sundays.
Some of those same activities have translated over to my
current roles at University Baptist Church in Austin. I teach an adult
Sunday school class and run the soundboard every-other Sunday. Presently
I serve as Chair of the Diaconate and Director of Bible Study. |
